MARIN runs large-scale hydrodynamic model tests and simulations. Every basin test and CFD run produces datasets that must remain accessible for decades, both for clients and for future research. The volume had reached 8 petabytes and kept climbing.

The Challenge

Data growth outpaced the existing infrastructure, operational management consumed too much specialist time, and long-term retention obligations made simply adding disks financially unsustainable.

Our Solution

We implemented a scalable, tiered data platform with automated lifecycle management, deduplication and a robust archive tier, combined with monitoring and clear operational runbooks so MARIN's team spends less time on storage administration.

The Results

8 petabytes of research data is now managed on a platform that scales predictably, with materially lower operational costs and faster retrieval of historical test data for clients and researchers.
