Within a year the Google search bar will no longer exist as we know it

    4 June 2026 — Liplyn Group

For the past 25 years we searched online for news, products and services through Google and Bing. That way of searching is now changing rapidly, with major consequences for how we find and buy things online.

AI search company Liplyn sees developments around AI search accelerating and argues we are only at the beginning of a much bigger shift. At the request of existing clients, the company has launched Liplyn Academy, offering training in AI visibility, Vibe Coding and Agentic AI.

"I foresee that within five years 80% of the apps on our mobile phones will be replaced by AI assistants, and that the Google search bar will no longer exist within a year as we have known it for years," says Luke Liplijn, founder of Liplyn.

"Where you now search for a house in Google and get redirected to, for example, Funda, you will soon tell Google what kind of house you are looking for, in what price range and in which neighbourhood. The AI assistant will then send you a personal notification as soon as a matching house comes on the market, including the details of the real-estate agent, so you can immediately plan a viewing. The same applies to all products and services — from the shoes you have been looking for to the concert of that one artist. In the new Google update, AI can even buy those shoes or that ticket directly for you, if you give permission."

    From visibility to knowledge building

According to Liplyn, AI is changing not only how people search, but also how companies need to be organized. Where SEO for years revolved around a high position in Google, a new playing field is emerging in which AI assistants summarize answers, select sources and recommend brands — or not. Knowledge about AI Search Visibility is becoming increasingly important.

"The question is no longer just: are you at the top of Google?" says Liplijn. "The new question is: are you named, cited and trusted by AI systems? That requires a different way of thinking about content, authority, technology and reputation."

"We talk a lot about ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Claude now, but there are hundreds of other AI systems deployed per country, per type of query or as an AI assistant. If you want to remain visible as a company, or if you as a government want people to find the right information, you have to move with it."

Not only marketing teams, but entire organizations will need to understand how AI systems select, interpret and recommend information. Liplyn Academy was developed to make that knowledge accessible to professionals and teams who want to work with AI themselves.

    AI, regulation and privacy

Regulation, ethics and privacy are changing too. Organizations that for certain reasons do not want to be found can request an AI opt-out with some providers; from that moment on they are no longer mentioned in, for example, Google's AI Overview. There is now a large number of AI search providers, and each one handles this differently.

How seriously this development is being taken became clear recently in the Vatican. There, Pope Leo XIV presented his first encyclical on 25 May, "Magnifica Humanitas", on protecting human dignity in the age of AI. Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah was present at the presentation. The encyclical warns, among other things, about the consequences of AI for inequality, the dignity of workers and warfare.

Part of a broader Liplyn Group strategy

The launch of Liplyn Academy fits within the broader strategy of Liplyn Group to support companies in the new, AI-driven information landscape. The company combines marketing, technology, education and content distribution to help brands remain visible and relevant.
